FACEBOOK BANNED IN PAKISTAN

At last Pakistan's government ordered Internet service providers to block Facebook on Wednesday. Anger was growing in Pakistan over a page in Facebook that encourages users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad.Since Islam prohibits any images of the Prophet, this page invited much anger and criticism among all Islam followers. This page was created to Draw Mohammed Day which encourages users to post images of the prophet on May 20 to protest threats made by a radical Muslim group against the creators of "South Park".

FACEBOOK AND ISLAM

The Facebook page said  "We simply want to show the extremists that threaten to harm people because of their Mohammad depictions that we're not afraid of them. That they can't take away our right to freedom of speech by trying to scare us into silence."

Thousand of people protested against this Facebook page in Pakistan and Pakistani women affiliated with a religious party rally against Facebook page 'Everybody Draw Mohammed”

Islamic Lawyers' Forum filed a suit against this in Lahore High Court on Wednesday to order the government to fully block Facebook. Court immediately gave a verdict to Pakistani Government to put a ban on Facebook.

Now Pakistan Government started the ban on Facebook and let us see whether other highly religious countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia will follow the same or not.  (Remember what happened in 2005 when a series of cartoons of Prophet published in a Danish newspaper and Muslims around the world protested against those cartoonists)

China already put a ban on Facebook but was proved to be a failure. This is just because this site was accessible through several other services like u95 and proxy servers.

It is always better not to hurt anyone’s feelings. All site owners must learn to respect other countries, religions and must take care not to  sprout any sort of bitter or hatred among the users. All social networking sites must look and learn from the attitude of Google, that offers the best policy of neutrality.

I agree with you that site owners should respect the values and morals of different countries. Facebook should make some changes to adapt to these things.
